Our Principles and Purposes

Our organisation aims to achieve a culture which is driven by Purpose, fuelled by People, brimming with Pride, and focused on achieving excellent performance. These are our internal Corporate Principles (or 4Ps) that shape our organisation:

Purpose

Our purpose guides strategic decisions, giving us direction and aligning the workforce towards common goals, whether they are individual, team or corporate purposes.

People

People are at the heart of everything we do and are also the reason for our existence . We are keen to prioritise our staff as individuals whilst also recognising the needs of the communities they serve. We strive for a workplace culture where employees respect one another, as per our code of conduct, and have the freedom to deliver excellence supported by people focused policies, including an Agile Working Policy. Our employees are our greatest asset, and we believe that it is important to look after them, and cultivate a positive environment where everyone has the chance to thrive.

Pride

Pride covers a lot of areas and means different things to different people. It could be pride in our physical space, pride in the collective achievements of teams, pride in our organisational identity, and pride in the quality of our work. We want staff to feel part of a culture where individuals find fulfilment in their contributions, celebrate shared accomplishments, and cultivate a strong sense of identity within the organisation.

Performance

Performance is about striving to achieve excellence and efficiency in all aspects of our organisation. It involves setting and meeting high standards, continually improving, ensuring optimal productivity, and delivery of the services our residents need, whether this is through individual and team performance, improving processes or overall organisational success.

The Full Story

As part of a recent Peer Review in 2023, the Councils published an extensive feedback report which contains a wealth of information.

The reports tell the recent story of the councils and includes an introduction to our areas, as well as the reasons for conducting a Peer Review, recommendations for each council, a summary and key feedback on our local priorities and outcomes, the organisation and leadership, the governance and culture, financial planning and management, and capacity for improvement.

Our Staff

We pride ourselves on being a progressive organisation, employing around 850 members of staff, where the essence of our Corporate Principles “Purpose, People, Pride, and Performance” are the building blocks of our organisational culture.

As two councils working together, we have successfully shared services, creating a single management team and a joint chief executive, whilst maintaining our organisations’ unique identities and providing high-quality, cost-effective services that are responsive to our customer needs.

Why join us?

There is a reason that “People” make up one of the four building blocks of our Corporate Principles because we believe that our staff are our most important asset, and not just a number. We are committed to offering fulfilling roles, developing our employees, and providing a spectrum of benefits designed to nurture our employees’ well-being and professional growth. From robust pension plans to generous leave entitlement, flexible working arrangements, and innovative salary sacrifice schemes, we invest in our teams’ success and happiness.

We pride ourselves on having a clear purpose to help drive and motivate staff, because staff who enjoy the work they do, perform better, and thrive in a range of career opportunities. Whichever function or department you choose, you can be sure of a rewarding career in a progressive and fast paced environment.
