Welcome to Redditch Borough and
Bromsgrove District Councils

We are looking to hire an experienced and innovative individual to lead, progress and manage our new Economic Development and Regeneration service. As Assistant Director of Regeneration, you will be responsible for a wide range of projects and initiatives which improve the local economy, support businesses, attract investment and regenerate key sites in our two authority areas.

Bromsgrove District and Redditch Borough Councils are neighbouring authorities with big ambitions, but each has their own distinct aims, political priorities, customer needs, demographics and commitment to equality and diversity.

By working together, both councils have successfully created a shared services workforce, including a single management team and joint chief executive, whilst maintaining their own unique identities that are responsive to our customer needs.

Both authorities have recently been awarded funds to progress several multi-million-pound projects to renew and revitalise each area, including the redevelopment of the Former Market Hall and Windsor Street sites in Bromsgrove and £15m investment from the Towns Deal fund for projects in Redditch like the digital, manufacturing and Innovation centre, a town centre plaza, and further public realm improvements, to regenerate the town.

Taking over from partners at NWEDR, you will work with colleagues and partners to oversee and drive forward programmes, projects and initiatives which improve the local economy and regenerate place, benefitting businesses and residents alike.

You will head up a brand-new team with the potential to have a big impact on our localities. If you enjoy leading projects and initiatives, are confident and creative and can use your experience to positively make a difference, this is the job for you.

A message from both council leaders

Our two councils had the foresight to share every possible service, from the Chief Executive downwards, fifteen years ago. Today, one organisation and one management team serves our two councils.

This made us one of the first fully shared-service organisations in the country, and both authorities remain just as forward-thinking today.

Like so many neighbouring areas we are similar but different, related but distinct, together but separate. We share many of the same challenges and deliver many of the same services, and residents in both areas have long benefited from the value we provide by working closely together.

Ultimately of course each council retains its own political independence, priorities, and identity, as you can see in our individual statements below.

This new opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Director of Regeneration & Property Services to join us now and help shape the organisation’s next steps, is huge.

In Bromsgrove District our people make us what we are. We put people at the heart of everything we do, whether that’s people who live here, in the towns and villages dotted across our 90 square miles of mostly green belt, people who work here, alongside more self-employed and business start-ups than anywhere else in England, or people who are here to visit. We want to keep aspirations high and taxes low as we strive to provide modern services that meet the expectations – not to mention growing needs – of our communities. The district’s very well-connected, central location makes us a prime location for ambitious businesses, and helping entrepreneurs drive new economic growth is a priority. There is a bright future ahead for highly focused, motivated, and approachable people who can join, and lead, the progress in Bromsgrove.

Cllr Karen May, Leader of Bromsgrove District Council

Redditch is a borough with enormous potential. Rich in opportunity and enterprise, our compact area stands apart with its mix of the old and the new, the traditional and the modern. In few other places can you find such a mix of ancient green landscapes, preserved industrial heritage, aerospace manufacturing, and forward-thinking new town planning – let alone all in the same postcode. Of course with this unique character comes unique challenges, placing a real emphasis on civic leadership. As a strong force in the town, the borough council plays a key role in ensuring that Redditch keeps up with the ambitions and aspirations of our communities. We’re looking for an Assistant Director to join our Corporate Management Team that can match those ambitions, and continue to drive an ambitious regeneration and property service.

Cllr Matt Dormer, Leader of Redditch Borough Council

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community
